Skifoan!

One week after Blackcomb opened I could not resist to go skiing. It was surprisingly good, better than at some days last year. Obviously they invested a lot of money in snow making, the lower pistes were in pretty good condition.

Whistler one week after they opened on Nov 5, 2005

Of course it was not a lot of snow, and there was no real powder anywhere. So I decided to hike up Jersey Cream Bowl. It was an awesome ride down. Pristine, deep snow. The visibility was good until it started to dump snow heavily in the afternoon.

Stupid Michael fell into this trench!
Treacherous Trench

The first run was pretty funny. I oversaw one of these water trenches and crashed into it. Of course it had some water flowing in it, about 5 cm high. I was quite wet, because I was lying backwards in the water. But the water froze instantly so it was not really a problem!

more snow

It was snowing again and we went to Mount Seymour for a winter walk on the snowshoe trails. Mount Baker was visible and the city slowly was covered up in fog, which was lasting for the whole following week.

The fog also had it's nice sides. Upon Burnaby Mountain we had Sunshine for the whole week. The fog never was higher than about 200m. Burnaby Mountain Park offered great views over the clouds and it looked like out of an aircraft... endlessly white. Especially the sunset was amazing.
